While in the piece The Solar Lottery there are infinite ways to arrange the 50 balls, if a picture was taken of a certain compostion and the words read off from left to right, top to bottom, there would be only 50! ways in which they could arrange themselves.

This sign (shown above) was included in my degree show and in the work entered as part of the Fleet exhibition.

'CONSTRUCTIONS' SERIES (2006) (all)

With the Level 2 show approaching fast, I spent three days using the individual pieces that would make up the final composite piece to make several smaller versions of the final sculpture (which can be found here).

During this time the temporal nature of the sculpture started to form in my mind. Rather than have a single final composition I decided to keep the sculpture 'fluid' - choosing that in any future exhibitions the piece would have a deliberately new composition, reacting to the new space it would inhabit with each construction.

The photos shown here display several experiments with the wooden composite pieces, as well as including some other elements, such as electrical components.

This was something I knocked up one morning while mulling over some ideas in my head. I was struck by Paul's address to the Aeropagus in Acts at the time, in particular these verses:

The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything.
(Acts 17:24-25)

FLEET EXHIBITION (July '08)

Last July 24 graduating students from University College Falmouth put on a self-initiated exhibition at Trinity Buoy Wharf, London, called 'Fleet'. As one of the exhibitors I chose to display work from my final degree show, namely The Solar Lottery and one of its accompanying wall pieces. THE SOLAR LOTTERY (2007-08)

This piece, The Solar Lottery, was the centrepiece of my final degree show at University College Falmouth. Below is a short and admittedly low quality video clip of the piece in action.

The piece is made up of a wooden frame, four chrome, oscilliating desk fans, netting and 50 polystryene balls with text printed on them. Each ball has one word repeated three times on its surface. The words are taken from the King James Version of the Bible, the book of Genesis, chapter 1, verses 1-3:

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.

UNTITLED (EASTER PIECE) (2007)

This was a piece of work I did at home over the easter break in 2007. I never really finished it, but enjoyed its large size and scope. It definitely held (and as an idea still does hold) a lot of promise; I hope to revisit it at a later date. Below is a detail shot of the piece.

These are three sculptures I completed at the end of my second year at University College Falmouth over a week's period in the bookable installation room. Each is made using found objects, wooden batons, wood veneer and string.

I completed these three drawings towards the end of my time at University College Falmouth. Constructed using a process of drawing intersecting lines and erasing parts of these lines to create the starting point of a further line, the drawing literally creates itself following the first few arbitrary marks.

This was the piece I chose to submit for the 'Level 2' show of my degree course, way back in 2007. It's created from around 25 seperate pieces, temporarily combined into this current structure using only plastic cable ties.

Many thanks to my friend Dave for putting this together. This is one of Falmouth Christian Union's Outreach Events 'Text-a-pancake'. Students living in halls of residence can text in for a pancake with a topping of their choosing to be delivered - along with a copy of FREE, a.k.a Mark's gospel - to their flat. It was a great event - you can see me at the back slaving over the stove to cook them all.
